Creative Commons Reports Growth
This week Creative Commons issued their report on the “State of the Commons”. Highlights from the report include findings that CC licensors choose more open licenses today than they did four years ago. This increase suggests that users are discovering and responding to the value of sharing work in a more open way. The report also draws attention to the international expansion of CC, with the growth of a global user base.
Setting the tone for the future direction of Creative Commons’ work is a need for technology that will make sharing easier, and a call for greater transparency in copyright law.
Today, the web contains over 882 million pieces of CC-licensed content. In 2015 this figure is expected to pass the 1 billion mark, signalling a transformation in the way people create, distribute and use content.
